where the wild things are
Art by Maurice Sendak.
The importance of children's literature hold a dual place in society: on the one hand, it serves to help educate and entertain young readers just starting out on their reading journeys, and on the other, it serves as a historical timestamp on the values of its day. Now through June, an exhibition at the Alexandria Museum of Art presents the illustrations and the illustrators that brought these stories to life. With over 125 original works included from numerous books from the likes of Where the Wild Things Are and The Cat in the Hat, the exhibition explores the history of children’s books with original art, from turn of the century pen-and-ink drawings to the most popular digital creations of today.
