Discover Nature: The Brown Pelican
LSU Hilltop Arboretum 11855 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810
Partnering with the Capital Area Native Plant Society (CANPS) and the Louisiana Master Naturalists of Greater Baton Rouge (LMNGBR), the LSU Hilltop Arboretum is offering a series of programs on ways to engage with and experience nature in our communities. This month, learn about how close Louisiana came to losing its state bird, the brown pelican, in the 1960s, and how restoration efforts have resulted in the great bird's removal from the Federal Endangered Species list in 2009. Coastal Resource Scientist Manager with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will detail these efforts, along with the impact of the Deep water Horizon Oil Spill, and future threats and restoration efforts on behalf of our state bird.$10; $5 for members of Hilltop, CANPS, and LMNGBR, pay at the door. 6:30 pm at the Imo Brown Complex in the Beverly Coates Auditorium.
