Dispatches from the Gulf
The disastrous 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill initiated an unprecedented response effort and mobilized the largest, coordinated scientific research endeavor around an ocean-related event in history—orchestrated through the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI). Dispatches from the Gulf, narrated by Matt Damon and part of the award-winning PBS Journey to Planet Earth series, tells the story of the scientists involved in the research to improve society’s ability to understand, respond to, and mitigate the impacts of petroleum pollution and related stressors of the marine and coastal ecosystems. The film screens today in the Louisiana Art & Science Museum's Adalié Brent Auditorium. 1:30 pm. Free. lasm.org.
