Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead
From the 1970s until the '90s, humor magazine The National Lampoon relentlessly pushed the boundaries of taste and propriety. Parodying everything from politics, religion, entertainment, and the whole of American lifestyle, the Lampoon branched into radio shows and even blockbuster films, including Animal House and National Lampoon's Vacation. Director Douglas Tirola's documentary Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of the National Lampoon, screening tonight at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, tells the story of its rise and fall through fresh, candid interviews with its key staff, illustrated with hundreds of outrageous images from the mag itself (along with never-seen interview footage from the magazine's prime). For a unique look into the magazine and its outrageous success, come to AcA's James Devin Moncus Theater at 7:30 pm. 101 West Vermilion Street. $10–$12. acadianacenterforthearts.org.
