At Lafayette's Acadiana Center for the Arts, there is no preference for discipline. Appreciated on stage and in its galleries are dancers, folk musicians, contemporary singers, visual artists, photographers, improv actors, and film. Throughout the year, the Center's James Devin Moncus Theater hosts a slate of local and foreign films of note, as well as special screenings of the Metropolitan Opera's live performances. February 1: Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Live on the Met stage for the first time in nearly thirty years, this timeless opera transports audiences to Catfish Row on the Charleston waterfront, vibrant with the music, dancing, emotion, and heartbreak of its inhabitants. Noon. $20.
February 10: Alla Kovgan's Cunningham, presented by Cane Fire Films. This documentary traces Merce Cunningham's artistic evolution over three decades, using 3D technology to weave together his philosophies and stories, creating a visceral journey into his innovative work. 7:30 pm. $10.
February 29: Handel's Aggripina. Live on the Met stage for the first time, adapted to the present day, where its tale of power-abuse still loudly resonates. Noon. $20.
