First Cousins: Cajun & Creole Music in South Louisiana
Jeanerette Museum 500 East Main Street, Jeanerette, Louisiana 70544
The Jeanerette Museum plays host to a screening of the documentary film First Cousins: Cajun and Creole Music in South Louisiana. This film explores the rich musical heritage of the region’s French-speaking people who have shared tunes, borrowed instruments, and danced in each other’s arms for generations. In private moments and in packed dance halls, some of the region’s most beloved musicians reveal the passion they share for making music and carrying on family traditions. Moriah Istre, Ph.D., introduces the film and leads a brief discussion on its making. Istre is a multilingual folklorist, cultural festival programmer, and independent filmmaker. Suitable for adults. Seating may be limited. 6 pm, free. jeanerettemuseum.com.
