The small towns that line the stretch of the river between New Roads and Natchez—the upper-lower Mississippi, one might say—are noted for small-town charm and Southern hospitality, but don't let the graces and good manners fool you. These people can party almost as hard as those flat-land Cajuns—particularly when the theme is patriotic. 

City of New Roads Independence Day Celebration

July 4: The City of New Roads invites all to celebrate the birth of our nation this 4th of July on Morrison Parkway with food, entertainment, and activities for the whole family. The day also includes sounds by Raccoon Band and the annual boat parade down False River beginning at 4 pm, with boats dressed in vibrant shades of red, white, and blue. Music starts at 5:30 pm with a golf cart parade at 7 pm and fireworks show at 9 pm. Free. 4 pm–9 pm. newroads.net. 

Natchez Fourth of July Fireworks

July 4: Join the party at the Natchez Bluff to celebrate Independence Day! Enjoy a booming firework show to cap off the night. Free. Fireworks at 9:30 pm. visitnatchez.org. 

St. Francisville's Fireworks at Parker Park 

July 4: St. Francisville celebrates the Fourth with live music by Trey & Lexi Pendley and Levee Road Revue, food trucks, and fireworks in Parker Park. 6 pm. Free. stfrancisville.net.
