The Northshore is well known for its relaxed pace of living and the many opportunities it offers for outdoor fun, as well as its burgeoning food and drink scene. But here, the days leading up to the Fourth of July make the most of the Northshore tourism boom … plus fireworks!
• Slidell, June 29: Annual Slidell Heritage Festival inside Heritage Park features live music, food, family activities, and fireworks. 4 pm–11 pm; fireworks at 9 pm. $10 adults; children 12 and younger free with paying adult. slidellheritagefest.org.
• Mandeville, June 29: Light Up the Lake. Begin your day on the Mandeville Lakefront at 10 am, when the city clears the way for unfurling your picnic setup. Entertainment begins at 4 pm, with a patriotic recognition followed by live music by Four Unplugged. Fireworks commence at dark. cityofmandeville.com.
• Abita Springs, June 29: Independence Day Celebration runs from 5 pm–10 pm at the Abita Springs Trailhead, featuring local bands, refreshments, flag retirement ceremony, and (of course) fireworks at 9 pm. louisiananorthshore.com.
• Covington, July 3: Sparks in the Park lights up Bogue Falaya Park from 4 pm to 9 pm with patriotic music, face painting, watermelon and hotdog eating contests, and more. The evening concludes with a fireworks show at 8:30. louisiananorthshore.com
