The Northshore is well known for its relaxed pace of living and the many opportunities it offers for outdoor fun, as well as its burgeoning food and drink scene. But here, the days leading up to the Fourth of July bring an explosion of tourism and festivities.
Slidell Heritage Festival
June 27: Inside Heritage Park, join the community in celebration of our nation with live music, plus food trucks and beverages, water slides and face painting, and of course a fireworks show to cap it all off. Gates open at 5 pm. Details at slidellheritagefest.org.
Covington's Sparks in the Park
July 4: Celebrate the birth of our nation—and America 250—with Covington's Sparks in the Park annual festival. The event includes fireworks at dusk, live patriotic music, and fresh food made by local vendorst. The Rotary Club of Covington will keep the crowd hydrated with lemonade and water. While there are plenty of activities for the kids, the Covington Business Association will have wine aplenty for adults. So pull out those lawn chairs and blankets and head to Bogue Falaya Park. Mandeville's Light Up the Lake
July 4: On the Mandeville Lakefront, the fireworks will be beautiful mirrored in Lake Pontchartrain providing a sure "fire" way to ring in the Fourth of July, and celebrate America 250. With patriotic tributes and live music, a kid's tent, games, face painting, a parade by the Mande Milkshakers, and food trucks, the fireworks are not the only thing to look forward to at this event. Fireworks begin at 8:45 pm and will be launched from a raised barge for great viewing all along the lakefront. Picnics are not only welcome, but encouraged. Free. louisiananorthshore.com.
Madisonville Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration
July 4: The Town of Madisonville and Keep Madisonville Beautiful invite you to the Old-Fashioned 4th of July celebration of America's Independence (and part of the Northshore's America 250 celebrations) on the banks of the Tchefuncte River. Bring your chairs, coolers, and picnic baskets, and find a spot on the riverfront to enjoy the fun. Feel free to bring the kids along, as some of the activities include kids' games, cornhole and horseshoe tournaments, a Veteran's Salute, watermelon eating and rooster crowing contests, a pie bake-off, and fireworks in front of Old Town Hall. Abita Springs' 4th of July Celebration
July 4: The city of Abita Springs invites all to their 4th of July celebration, part of America 250 festivities. The festival will bring patriotic joy to the whole family, with live music, fireworks, face painting for the kids, and food from favorite vendors. Free. 5 pm–9:30 pm. louisananorthshore.com.
