Jambalaya Festival
A fill-your-belly festival in the Jambalaya Capital of the World.
to
Lamar-Dixon Expo Center 9039 Saint Landry Avenue, Gonzales, Louisiana 70737
Once upon a time—in 1967—the idea to stage a great Jambalaya Festival in Gonzales was born. Buoyed by a declaration, the governor proclaimed Gonzales, Louisiana, Jambalaya Capital of the World, and the first festival followed in the summer of 1968. This year sees the 59th annual Gonzales Jambalaya Festival return to the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center May 21—24, with organizers on track to serve up more events, more fun, and … yep … more jambalaya than ever before.
Almost sixty years on, Gonzales (aka "Jambalaya Capital of the World"), hosts its annual festival dedicated to identifying Louisiana's finest jambalaya cooks (and along the Great River Road, the competition is fierce). The event, which is free to the public, revolves around a massive jamba-cooking contest, but alongside are carnival rides, a car show featuring classic cars and custom builds, dozens of food vendors and arts & crafts booths, and live music featuring local, regional, and national acts. And if you're worried about eating too much, sign up to burn it all off again during the 5K or 1-mile fun runs. Free. Full schedule at jambalayafestival.net.
