Henry Turner Jr. Listening Room Expands
"The real deal musical undercurrent of Baton Rouge runs right through this place," wrote Country Roads' "Really Listening" music columnist, Alex V. Cook about the Henry Turner Jr. Listening Room. With a relocation and grand opening slated for October 29, the listening room now takes up residence at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino, offering weekly Thursday night performances in Bar 102 in the downtown atrium. The grand opening event promises Smokehouse Porter and Miss Mamie, the "King and Queen of the Gut Bucket Blues," New York City blues quartet Brewster Moonface, and of course, Henry Turner Jr. himself all taking the stage. Expect a similar standard of original musical soloists and bands on the Thursdays that follow.
Henry Turner Jr. established the Listening Room on North Street in 2014 as an homage to famed Swamp Pop Blues legend, Tabby Thomas, founder of Tabby’s Blues Box. The venue became a destination for local musicians to hone their skills and gave regional and national touring acts another outlet in which to perform. The room's founding principal is to promote, introduce, and mentor new and established musical acts and their songwriting talent. Gigs from 8 am–midnight each Thursday at 103 France Street. No cover. Free valet parking for the first forty guests. (225) 246-2600 or facebook.com/henryturnerjrlisteningroom.
