Historic Highland Road Gardens
Hilltop Arboretum leads its second garden tour of the spring, along historic Highland Road. The naturally elevated stretch served as a barrier to the Mississippi River flood plain, and the road itself was established as a supply route for the indigo and cotton crops of Baton Rouge's early settlers, an alternative route to the oft-flooded River Road. Garden tour hosts are Charla and David Wade (16612 Autumn Ridge Avenue), Dr. Anthony and Susan Ioppolo (846 Myrtle Hill Drive), Belinda and Charles King (10245 Knox Hill Court), and Sherryl and Bob Tucker (10229 Veranda Court). 1 pm–5 pm. Tour tickets are $20 ($5 for students with ID) and available for purchase at the LSU Hilltop Arboretum (11855 Highland Road), online at lsu.edu/hilltop or at each garden on the day of the tour. Attendees may start the tour at any of the four homes. Plants will be available for sale at the Hilltop Arboretum before and after the tour.
