"Japanese War Brides: Across a Wide Divide"
to
Old State Capitol 100 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70801
Japanese War Brides: Across a Wide Divide, on display at Louisiana's Old State Capitol, tells the nuanced and extraordinary story of more than 45,000 Japanese women who married American servicemen and immigrated to the United States following World War II. The exhibition explores how these women, who had been perceived and dehumanized as the enemy during the war, confronted—and defied—societal, racial, and gender norms and barriers to transform and expand American identity. Japanese War Brides is presented in a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, the National Museum of American History, and War Bride Experience, Inc. louisianaoldstatecapitol.org.
