Lafcadio Fest
New Orleans Jazz Museum 400 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
A joint effort by The Japan Society of New Orleans and the New Orleans Jazz Museum presents the inaugural Lafcadio Fest—a festival honoring the legacy of author Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904). Hearn, who was born on a Greek island and lived much of his life across continents, eventually made his way to New Orleans to record local folklore and curate one of the earliest Creole cookbooks, La Cuisine Creole. He ultimately settled in Japan and became a teacher in the town of Matsue, now New Orleans’s sister-city. The festival will feature an international panel of scholars, talks, community member reflections, food, sake toasts, and musical surprises. Held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. 10:30 am–4:30 pm. japansocietyofneworleans.org. nolajazzmuseum.org.
