Stills from Louisiana Grass Roots film
Learn more about the rich, complicated history of Acadiana's distinct landscape at this screening of Jillian Godshall's new short film, Louisiana Grass Roots. Produced by Dr. Phyllis Baudoin Griffard and featuring an original score by Grammy-nominated Blake Miller (of The Revelers), the film was made entirely locally and features Geno Delafose, Megan Constantin, Dr. Jeffrey Darensbourg, Dr. Charlles Allen, Dr. Malcolm Vidrine, Larry Allain, and Steve Nevitt.
The film documents the imperiled "Cajun Prairie" ecosystem, its rediscovery, and its determined revival—encouraging the viewer to re-examine the ecosystem as something of profound human and ecological value.
Prior to the screening, guests can tour an exhibition sharing the stories of the animals, plants, people, and culture of the Cajun prairie, titled Hidden in Plain Sight. Afterward, there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Free. acadianacenterforthearts.org.
