Lunchtime Lagniappe: Disappearing History
Looking at Fort Proctor on Lake Borgne
Capitol Park Museum 660 North 4th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802
Construction on Fort Proctor, one of several forts built or planned along Lake Borgne in Southeastern Louisiana following the War of 1812, began in 1856, but was halted in 1859, due to a hurricane and the beginning of the Civil War. A. Hays Town Professor in the LSU School of Architecture Ursula Emery McClure’s interest in recoding ecological changes within the dynamic coastal environment led her to investigate this site, which is under extreme environmental risk.
