Margaret Evangeline: On War
A challenging new exhibit from the LSU Museum of Art brings home the work of Baton Rouge native and internationally renowned artist Margaret Evangeline. In her provocative paintings, Evangeline explores the causes and effects of modern war and violence, reflecting on art's capacity to represent and respond to war. To embody the violence she critiques, the artist uses gunshots and bullet holes in her paintings and installations. She has collaborated as well on work with her son, a soldier in the U.S. Army who has been deployed to Iraq three times now. To Evangeline's perception as a mother and a pacifist—and it reflects in her work—war is not something that happens far away to someone else.
The exhibit will be on display from March 6 until August 2, with an opening reception on March 12. lsumoa.org.
