Native Gardens
Southern Rep Theatre 2541 Bayou Road, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119
Good fences make good neighbors, they say, and that's because people who've spent a lot of time, money, and energy on their private property are wont to go berserk should it be blemished in the least. Other contemporary border disputes may have more tragic consequences, but in Native Gardens, with a regional premiere at Southern Rep, drama implodes on a smaller stage when Pablo, a rising attorney, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, purchase a home next to Frank and Virginia, a well-established D.C. couple with a prize-worthy English garden. Notions of race, taste, class, and privilege come to bear, but did anyone think to stop and smell the roses? Whaddaya mean those are your roses? They're clearly on my property. 7:30 pm; 3 pm matinee on Sunday. $28–$45. October 30–November 4; November 7–10; November 14–17. Visit southernrep.com for tickets and a full range of showtimes.
