New Orleans International Vodou Day invites scholars, artists, culture bearers, and community members to the city to explore the living traditions of Vodou, along with related African diaspora religions. On Saturday, participants can stop by a day-long symposium at Xavier University’s Qatar Pavilion Auditorium, featuring presentations on historical and contemporary Vodou practice, an arts exhibition, an afroecology and sacred plants display, and children's activities. Later that evening, catch musician Paul Beaubrun's performance at Café Istanbul ($15). Then, on Sunday, the day begins with a Procession of Remembrance, stopping at historic sites related to the transatlantic slave trade, culminating in a traditional Vodou ceremony at Congo Square.
