Opening this month at the LSU Museum of Art, Reflections is an exhibit exploring the lives, traditions, and environments of African-American in the twentieth century. The fifty pieces of art on display are drawn from the collection of Myrna Colley-Lee, who has enjoyed a long career as a costume designer and has long been a respected art collector. (Though because life is unfair, Google will inform you first that she's also Morgan Freeman's ex-wife.) Work by Romare Bearden, James Van Der Zee, Elizabeth Catlett, Eudora Welty, and Betye Saar present a snapshots of African American communities, both from within and from artists working alongside them. The LSU School of Music and Dramatic Arts will present a talk with Myrna Colley-Lee on her experience as a costume designer on September 7, 2017, preceding the LSUMOA's evening discussion with Colley-Lee that evening; stay tuned for more details. brandisimmons@lsu.edu or 225-389-7209; lsumoa.org.
