Return of the Xactci Dance
Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center 315 N. Main St., Opelousas, Louisiana 70570
In honor of National American Indian Heritage Month, citizens of the Canneci Tinne Apache Tribe present the Xactci Dance at the Opelousas Museum. The ritual has not been performed in Louisiana for over 160 years after Native American dancing was halted in the early 1800s. For more than a year tribal citizens have created regalia and learned rhythms and rituals to present the dance. A Talker will also be present sharing the history of the Xactci, along with tribal culture. 11 am–1 pm. cannecitinne.com. museum@cityofopelousas.com.
