Out of the Shadows of Leprosy
The Jeanerette Museum hosts author Claire Manes, adjunct professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, as she presents "Out of the Shadows," a talk on leprosy in Louisiana and one family's personal experience. Ms. Manes' grandfather was a leprosy patient at a hospital in Carville, Louisiana, from 1924 to 1932; his four siblings were patients also. Once a taboo topic in her family, Ms. Manes set on a path of discovery when she found letters from her grandfather to the family, and her discovery became the topic of her doctoral studies and dissertation. 6 pm at 500 East Main Street.
