Sick Girl: A Victory for T&A
Now with new illnesses! Sick Girl is comedian and cancer-survivor Katie East's one-person show based on her experience of living with cancer and various other maladies. Sick Girl is presented as a Coney Island-style freak show that revolves around East, aka “Sick Girl,” with appearances from various “freaks” in the form of additional characters she plays. A hysterical show with ridiculous costumes and maybe a couple of dramatic moments, Sick Girl aims to leave audiences laughing, crying, and maybe just a little grossed out.
• New York City-based comedian Caitlin Brodnick, who starred in the Emmy Award-winning docu-series Screw You Cancer, will join East for this show at the Theatre at St. Claude. After being diagnosed with the BRCA gene, Brodnick underwent a preventative double mastectomy—an experience that she has woven into a hilarious and honest standup routine.
So, with one comedian a carrier of the breast cancer gene and the other a survivor of melanoma on her buttocks, what else could they have called this show but a "Victory for T&A." Performances at 8 pm Saturday, November 19, 2 pm Sunday, November 20 at the Theatre at St. Claude, 2240 St Claude Avenue. Suggested for 18 and over, you will be unsurprised to learn. $20. thetheatreatstclaude.com.
