Southern Futurism at the Healthcare Gallery
Like the Futurists of the early 20th century, we live lives immersed in technology, and surrounded by the trappings of modern, urban existence. Viewing this life through a Southern lens, tinted by traditions, can result in modern dissonance.

For all of us, artists included, viewing a world driven by ever-evolving technology and the realities of modern existence, through the tradition-tinted lens of the South, can bring on attacks of cognitive dissonance. Our region's past has been thoroughly explored, but what will the future look like? A new exhibition at The Healthcare Gallery seeks to showcase contemporary artists’ depictions of the schism and reconciliation of what might be called New Southern Futurism. The exhibition has attracted work by artists from all over the country, including Cynthia Frigon, Emily Grego, Donté Hayes, Therese Knowles, Tom LaPann, Donald Matheson, Arthur McViccar, Elle Mouton, Giang Nguyen, Laura Noel, Herb Roe, Wren Ross, and James Simpson. Southern Futurism opens January 20 with a March 25 reception from 6 pm–9 pm. On display until April 7. thehealthcaregallery.com.
