One of Baton Rouge's biggest music festivals returns. The 9th Annual Taste of the Deep South emphasizes world music among other numerous genres. A pre-party Thursday, September 17, takes place at Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room with music from Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, the Listening Room All-Stars, and special guest artists from around the country who will perform at the festival. 7 pm–midnight; tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and include buffet and no-host bar.
The main festival lights up Saturday and Sunday at the main library at Goodwood, with music, craft fair, food, and for the competitive, a Henry Turner Jr. look-a-like contest and watermelon eating contest. Noon–8 pm both days. Free, with VIP tiers available from $25. htjday.com.
