30 by Ninety Theatre presents: "The Laramie Project"
30 by Ninety Theatre 880 Lafayette Street, Mandeville, Louisiana 70448
This documentary-style play was playwright Moisés Kaufman's response to the brutal murder of twenty-one-year-old Matthew Shepard in October 1998, a hate crime targeting Shepard because of his sexuality. Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project then traveled to the place of the crime, Laramie, Wyoming, to conduct more than 200 interviews—from which they built The Laramie Project. Praised as one of the most important works of contemporary American theater, the play explores the realities of intolerance, resilience, and human empathy. See 30 by Ninety's rendition this spring. 8 pm Fridays and Saturdays; 2:30 pm Sundays. $22; $20 for seniors; $17 for students thirteen and older; $14 for children twelve and younger. 30byninety.com.
