House Tour: Mid-Century Modern Homes in New Iberia
Bayou Teche Museum 131 East Main Street, New Iberia, Louisiana 70560
Once you are done fawning over the mesmerizing 19th century mammoth that is the Shadows-on-the-Teche, look around to see the intriguing array of more modern, and equally fascinating, architecture of New Iberia. The Louisiana Architecture Foundation, the Iberia Cultural Resources Association, and the Iberia Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau are opening the doors to a selection of mid-century modern homes through a self-guided tour on June 1, showcasing even sites, featuring mid 50s to late 60s architecture. The tour will serve as a fundraiser to support the Louisiana Architecture Foundation and the Iberia Cultural Resource Association. 10 am–4 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Bayou Teche Museum for $35 or online at louisianaarchitecture.org for $30; $55 for VIP, which includes a reception in one of the homes. Members of LAF or ICRA will receive a $5 discount.
On Friday, May 31, there will be a panel discussion held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, exploring New Iberia modernism with local architects and designers. Free and open to the public.
