Last week I wrote about how much I loved my first time flying JetBlue and the great deal to San Juan they were offering at the moment. That particular deal has passed, but now I’ve stumbled across a kind of two-for-one holiday destination deal using JetBlue’s current sale—along with a bit of online effort. And it gets you even deeper into the Caribbean. As I write this Tuesday morning, the airline is offering $78 round-trip fares from New Orleans to Fort Lauderdale on select dates in January. From there you can fly to Bridgetown, Barbados, for as little as $125 round-trip. The cheapest flights to Barbados are early morning. Which means you’ll need to spend a night or two or four in Fort Lauderdale. (During the height of stone crab season, oh darn.) But if you have the time for a double-destination getaway, this is hundreds of dollars less than a typical airfare from New Orleans to the Caribbean islands. To research dates with the best fares takes a bit of sleuthing. On the JetBlue home page, hover over “Plan a Trip,” and look for “Deals” at the end of the options that drop down. Put in a city pair and all available fares will appear in a monthly calendar. You’ll need to search separately for flights from New Orleans to Fort Lauderdale, and then from Fort Lauderdale to Bridgetown.
