What does a heart symbolize: Love? Commitment? Belonging? In Louisiana’s heartland in Alexandria/Pineville, the heart represents all these plus thriving community spirit, which is exactly what Explore Alexandria Pineville team leaders set out to capture with their latest campaign. Launched in February, the Community Heart Project is bringing community members together to celebrate the culture and heritage of Central Louisiana, to spur the local economy, and to leave a legacy to inspire future generations.

At a time when finding common ground with others plays a vital role in successful community building, organizers with the Explore Alexandria Pineville have set out to leave a lasting mark on the region by bringing businesses, organizations, and area residents together around a common goal: beautifying and inspiring central Louisiana.
The initiative makes hand-painted heart sculptures created by local artists available to area organizations for display at their places of business. The hearts help local retailers, non-profits and other entities stand out, while putting the distinctive visual signatures of local artists on display. Eventually, the location of each “heart of Louisiana” will be featured on a map, creating a heart trail for locals and visitors to explore.
Explore Alexandria Pineville has been gratified by the community support that has greeted this initiative, with ten hearts purchased in opening weeks, and six to eight additional institutions soon to get on board.
