Imagine waking up on a weekend away, coffee brewing in the next room. You open the blinds—revealing a stunning floor-to-ceiling window, and behind it, a tableau of the immaculate Ole Brook Golf Course, the sun rising gently right over it.
“Stay and Play” was the vision John E. Lynch had for his revitalization of The Clubs at Ole Brook. And when Lynch dreams something up for Brookhaven, that dream comes true—as is evidenced by his investments, restorations, and activations in the Central Business District. In the thirty years he’s lived in the charming Southern town, he’s been involved in around twenty-five revitalization projects, fostering countless businesses and spurring tourism with projects like opening the Inn on Whitworth, and converting a historic funeral home into the new city hall.

With The Porches, which opened last year on the golf course, Lynch has created an alternative lodging option for visitors to the town—especially those interested in taking advantage of the state-of-the-art recreational amenities of the nearby Clubs, which include the golf course, a pool, tennis courts, a walking trail, and more. “Being on the golf course is just amazing,” said Lynch. “The location really sets it apart.”

The Porches in Brookhaven
Guests of The Porches take in the scenic view of Ole Brook Golf Course from the comfort of their rocking chairs.
And soon, he said, visitors more interested in the view of the golf course than scoring an albatross can enjoy luxury extras without even leaving The Porches itself. “Eventually,” said Lynch, “we plan on having a putting green, outdoor fire pit, plunge pool, and other amenities where families and friends can gather.”
Already, the calming, modern aesthetic of The Porches cultivates an environment that is pure “escapism,” with bungalows designed in part by Brookhaven artist Dr. Kim Sessums. “We think that the décor and overall cool factor makes it the best place to stay while visiting Brookhaven,” said Lynch.
Guests can select from one or two-bedroom cabins, with a full kitchen and laundry, and a flat screen television—“making it very nice for families coming into town,” said Lynch. Prices start at $195 per night. porchesatolebrook.com.
