The perfect fall day in New Orleans includes a bowl of gumbo in your hand and a brass band trumpeting out the sounds of a second line. The only thing better than that? A whole weekend’s-worth of food and festivities! Celebrate the city’s unique heritage, distinctive cuisine, and world-renowned musicians at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s Tremé Creole Gumbo Fest, coming up November 9 and 10, 2024, at Louis Armstrong Park on Rampart Street.
New Date … Same Great Fest
Going strong for 16 years and counting, this year's festival returns to its original timeslot of November—the height of gumbo season. The weather might be cooler, but this fest still serves up a proud showcase of the culinary and cultural heritage of the Tremé neighborhood through live music performances, local chefs, and talented artisans and crafters. Be drawn to Armstrong Park to hear sounds of jazz and blues, and the contagious beat of brass bands, courtesy of an overflowing line-up featuring some of the city’s most famous musicians—from the Charmaine Neville Band to The Soul Rebels and the Brass-A-Holics.

There's a treasure for everyone on your holiday shopping list at the Festival's arts market.
Explore the festival grounds and savor the flavors of dark roux chicken and sausage gumbo, Creole filé gumbo, and seafood gumbo. Why choose just one, when you can try all three? Save room for po-boys or shrimp ’n’ grits, though, and there’s bound to be a dessert or two that gets your attention. In between sampling, visitors get to browse the huge arts market, which showcases local and regional hand-crafted artworks, home furnishings, jewelry, and other crafts. It’s the perfect opportunity to get a head start on your holiday shopping, and surprise that special someone with a gift as unique as the Crescent City itself. There are also activities for the little fest-goers, so bring the whole family.
Admission to the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival is free, but donations are accepted to help offset costs of future events. For more fun, book your $10 tickets to the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival Kickoff Concert featuring Deacon John & The Ivories at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, 1225 N. Rampart Street, starting at 8 pm on Friday, November 8.
