A little lagniappe for your calendar, including jazz brunch at Bonnie Glen, a spring concert series from the Arts Council, and more

The 2021 Jazz Brunch at Bonnie Glen promises to be a delightful garden party outing on May 23. The annual fundraising feast for the Pointe Coupee Historical Society will take place on the estate's gorgeous grounds, which feature heritage plants grown in Louisiana gardens prior to 1860 and an ancient live oak, as well as craft cocktails, live entertainment by the St. Cyr Jazz Band, and a tour of the stunning historic home. Tickets can be purchased here. 

The Arts Council of Pointe Coupee's annual Performing Arts Series is set to return in full swing to the Julien Poydras Museum and Art Center in New Roads. The 2021 season features a lineup of high-energy talent who have been favorites at the French Quarter Festival and Jazz Fest in New Orleans, as well as some strong regional vocalists who have come highly recommended by PAS patrons. This month on May 21, check out The Krickets, a trio of female vocalists from Panama City, Florida. The Krickets are an Americana group with a specialty in swamp harmony, the group's genre-bending songwriting has allowed them to play for diverse audiences from listening rooms to official performances at SXSW. 

As a lake town, New Roads goes all out for America's birthday weekend. This year’s celebration includes live music and food booths in town square on July 3 followed by a nighttime fireworks show over the lake. On July 4, the annual False River Boat Parade is back in buoyant fashion for a patriotic party on the water. Participants are encouraged to decorate their boat or barge for the festivities, and at 2 pm, boaters will cruise by the gazebo adjacent to Morel's Restaurant, to be judged by a panel of voters for a slew of awards (and bragging rights). 

On Memorial Day Weekend, Kiwanis of Pointe Coupee will again sponsor the annual Blessing of the Boats tradition, accompanied by a boat parade and veterans ceremony. Join the good people of New Roads, including a Catholic priest at the ready, at the Downtown New Roads Public Landing to see red, white, and blue bedecked boats. Free to attend and free to be blessed.
