The Burlesque Opera of Tabasco
to
Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre 616 Saint Peter Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116
Shipwrecked in a fictionalized Middle Eastern land, an adventurer poses as a chef in order to gain a place at the local royal court, only to discover that the Pasha has given his predecessor the all-too-literal axe for failing to provide spicy enough dishes. Fortunately, there's a factory on Avery Island with a distribution network so good, it even reaches the bazaar. This light opera, originally performed in 1894 and reminiscent of Gilbert and Sullivan, will take the stage at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre after years of painstaking reconstruction by conductor Paul Mauffray. Thursday and Friday 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday 2:30 pm. Tickets from $25. neworleansopera.org.
