We all know Louisiana residents who take Jazz Fest very seriously: the folks who have been every year for decades, have authority on all the best food booths, and “Remember when you could get a ticket for twelve bucks?” For these Fest aficionados, and anyone else that might be interested, the Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation Archive has unveiled a useful, impressively comprehensive research tool: The Jazz Fest Database.

The two diligent employees of the Jazz Fest Archive, along with a host of volunteers, have worked since 2012 to compile the database, and their efforts were finally completed in April. The database is available online, and with a simple search allows one to find out what years a particular artist played the festival. Curious about what years Kermit Ruffins played at Jazz Fest? The Meters? Before the database was complete, you would have to wade through information online or in-person. Now, researchers and festival enthusiasts can simply type the name into a search bar.
