Opéra Louisiane

A new program jumpstarts young careers

by

This July, Opéra Louisiane’s conductor and former music director, Michael Borowitz (pictured here), was promoted to the position of artistic director. Along with planning performances and events for the 2015—2016 season, Borowitz has also founded a Resident Artist Quartet—a group made up of four current or recent LSU graduate students.

The quartet represents yet another chance to bolster the operatic reputation of the city, which has enjoyed strong growth since Opéra Louisiane was founded in 2007, producing world-class performances and nurturing burgeoning talent through its Young Artist’s Program. Now, Opéra Louisiane will also bolster the careers of these young sopranos, mezzos, tenors, and baritones.

Representing the face of Opéra Louisiane, the quartet will feature in citywide events and performances all season long and might even occasionally appear in the company’s scheduled productions. “People are really going to know these folks up close,” said Borowitz. “This is an opportunity for them to have a platform for their craft, allowing them to practice what they’ll be doing for the rest of their lives.”

Opéra Louisiane’s 2015—2016 season runs from August 2015—May 2016. To view the schedule for the Resident Artist Quartet and the opera’s event calendar, visit operalouisiane.com.
