Hidden Potential

Anyone who has ever been sick at home knows the potential torment of what might normally be a sought-after blessing: an abundance of free time. With nowhere to go and no one to see, and with an excessive amount of Netflix and YouTube convincing us that maybe we never wanted a beach body anyway, all those hours spent lazing at home (or running after children, or cooking meals with limited supplies, or trying to do both while simultaneously holding conference calls with co-workers) can drive your imagination up the wall.

To help alleviate those creative jitters during this era of the coronavirus, the Baton Rouge Gallery has launched a new project entitled “The Flat Curve Gallery,” an initiative to encourage Louisianans of all ages to grab a crayon, a paintbrush, a lump of clay, or whatever sparks their fancy, and send in their works created during COVID-19 to take part in an online gallery.

Submit free of charge. Just send BRG scans or pictures of artworks you or your children create, and the gallery will feature them online and on its social media platforms. Pieces can be inspired by the pandemic or have nothing to do with it—it’s up to you. The only rule is that the art has to have been created no earlier than March 13, 2020.

So, want to introduce your toddler to finger painting? Or maybe bust out that art kit you got for your fifth-grade birthday? Maybe you’ve kept your talents lurking in the wings for an opportunity just like this.  Whatever your experience level, you’re about to make history.
