Oryza Cooler

by

1 + 1/2 oz. Oryza Vodka
 1 oz. lemon juice
1/2 oz. honey syrup (recipe below)
2 dashes of Regan’s Orange Bitters (substitute a dash of Triple Sec if bitters are not available)
ginger beer (preferred) or ginger ale
 lemon twist for garnish
 Glass: Collins or Highball

Combine all ingredients in a shaker and shake until the shaker is frosty to the touch. Pour the ingredients over ice. Make sure to double strain the cocktail using a tea strainer due to the fresh squeezed lemon juice and to capture any ice shards. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lemon zest.

Honey Syrup

To make honey syrup, mix 2 parts honey to 1 part hot water. Always use local honey. Most honey on store shelves is imported and is diluted with high-fructose corn syrup and tainted with chemicals and antibiotics. I recommend Bocage Bee & Honey. They harvest honey from different parts of Louisiana, with very different flavor profiles.

Please note that if you use pure honey rather than the syrup, you will have to stir all ingredients in a mixing glass before adding ice to your shaker so that the honey does not solidify.
