Planters Punch

A refreshing, mellow summertime drink that uses dark rum as a base

From Russell Archer, this is a delicious summertime drink that uses dark rum as a base. It was actually derived from the 1930s era “Creole Punch” but was popularized in 1947 by Vic “Trader Vic” Bergeron, the father of the tiki drink movement. Planters Punch is very refreshing and mellow. The recipe below is by Dale DeGroff; it is a slight variation on the original and it’s a bit “ingredient intensive.”

Ingredients

Method

Shake all the ingredients except the soda with ice, strain into a Collins glass three-quarters filled with ice, and top with soda, if using.  Garnish with orange slice and cherry.
