LA Cajun-Zydeco Fest: Sights & Smells
Get out those dancing shoes, polish up the scrub-board, and plan to wear some stretchy pants. The Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival is on, cher!
The Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival will bring the sounds and flavors of Southwest Louisiana to Louis Armstrong Park once again on June 11–12. Presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, this free, family-friendly weekend throwdown will feature live bands, fresh seafood from local vendors, and an art market with a smattering of handcrafted goods from both Acadiana and New Orleans-based makers. The combination of a rollicking two-step beat and savory, spicy seafood is a potent example of how we love to pass a good time (and beat the heat) in the city, and come together to celebrate the time-honored traditions and cultural legacy of our coastal neighbors.
Since it’s peak seafood season, a slew of food vendors will be on site to serve Louisiana-style oysters, shrimp, catfish, crab, alligator, and other Gulf delicacies. Make sure you grab a bite to eat in between songs so you’ll have the energy to keep dancing.
Beyond the music, the Cajun-Zydeco Festival also delights with its annual art market—a massive makers fair featuring dozens of regional artists showcasing handmade fine art, heritage crafts, and more. And for the little festival-goers? The park's Kids Tent includes supervised activities and workshops like collage-making, arts and crafts, and face painting. jazzandheritage.org.
