Unbelievable: My Blue Hydrangeas

How to make your colors change

by

Can this be happening? Are there blue hydrangeas actually growing in my front yard? And not the wimpy, light blue you sometimes see; these beauties are an intense straight-outta-Provence blue. Friends, I never thought blue hydrangeas would be a reality for me. Hearing bits of info here and there about manipulating the soil with aluminum to turn the hydrangea blooms blue was more than enough to convince me that blue hydrangeas were out of my realm. (I don't mix well with high-maintenance plants.) In fact, our last attempt at planting/growing hydrangeas failed miserably, so hydrangeas of any color seemed to be out of reach.

Well, leave it to the fantastic gardeners from whom we purchased our new house to gift us, yet again, with the plants of our fantasies. Our hydrangeas burst a couple of weeks ago into big beautiful blooms, varying shades of blue and pink. Of course we had nothing to do with this success, but I feel like a new person! Spread the word: The Cravens have blue hydrangeas—anything is possible!
