A matter of curation familiar to long-time makers of a magazine, for the past two years, the Country Roads Supper Club has emerged as an assembler of beautiful things: regional cuisine, incredible destinations, and enriching entertainment. Though resounding with Country Roads’ characteristic tendencies toward discovery, adventure, and pleasure, our dinners are no crafted fantasy. We live in a place positively profuse with beauty, creativity, and flavors found nowhere else in the world. It’s just a matter of looking closer, and showing up.

For our Spring 2020 Supper Club series, we’re bringing you three opportunities for intimate encounters with the bounties of our region. First bounty? The stirrings of romantic love.

Returning for its second year—this time with a fantastique flair français—our Mid City is for Lovers Valentine’s Day banquet will be held under the twinkling eaves of Government Street’s newest social sphere, Electric Depot. Chef Jason Roland of Heirloom Cuisine will prepare a flamboyantly French-inspired menu sure to ignite a rosy glow in the coldest of mid-February hearts. Read more about the February 14 event on page 44.

On March 22, we’re bringing Supper Club back to the River, this time at Darrow’s historic Houmas House, where resident Chef Jeremy Langlois will—not for the first time—conjure creative delicacies attuned to Louisiana ingredients. At our Beyond the Boat dinner, the folks at Louisiana Seafood will lend their nets to bring us plateful after plateful of fresh local aquatic dishes, celebrating an industry that has been as impactful to Louisiana’s economy as its history and its culture.

Staying true to native celebrations, the final Supper Club of our Spring Series—held on May 3—will draw us into the lush greenery of Baton Rouge’s Hilltop Arboretum. There, the Capital City’s hottest new things in plant-based cuisine—BLDG 5’s Chefs Brumby Broussard and Breck Hatcher—will present a vibrant, vegetarian menu for People and Plants: A Vibrant Vegetarian Adventure.
