Cajun Bayou Food Trail

Discover why locals live to eat in Louisiana's Cajun Bayou

The best way to get to know a place, and by extension its people, is through its food. In 2018, the Cajun Bayou Food Trail was created to provide an enthusiastic Bienvenue! to those seeking unforgettable dining experiences with Cajun and Creole cuisine and warm hospitality to boot. Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou is home to a small-town food scene enviable of some of the best culinary destinations in the world, and the Cajun Bayou Food Trail is designed to showcase just that.

The trail has no less than seventeen stops (plus six foodie festivals and culinary-focused events) to tempt your taste buds. As you eat your way up and down the bayou, you’re likely to come across a cast of unapologetically Cajun characters who are sure to introduce you to the fresh and fried wonders of authentic South Louisiana cuisine. From seafood barely out of the water, to savory sides, staple spirits and more, Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou has it all.

Choose from fine dining establishments, casual counter service digs, or roadside hidden gems; whichever local favorite you decide to try, you’ll undoubtedly be treated like family. The more you eat, the more you’ll find that Cajun food and culture are connected, all of it infused with the joie de vivre that makes a meal, a day, or even a lifetime here so unforgettable.

There are your run-of-the-mill entree dishes, such as seafood baskets and platters, of course, but then you have your specialty items that really steal the show—like the Seafood Bateau at Cher Amie's Seafood Restaurant in Cut Off, which features boat-shaped bread topped with seafood sauce, or the sought-after savory andouille and alligator cheesecake from Cinclare Southern Bistro. Need we say more?

Before embarking on your appetizing adventure down the length of Louisiana Highway 1, don't forget to download your passport and trail map to guide you to the best stops along Bayou Lafourche (or stop in at the Visitor Center to get a hard copy, if print media is more your style). Whether you're a Louisiana native or a first-time visitor, Louisiana's Cajun Bayou invites you to follow the Cajun Bayou Food Trail on a unique journey through Lafourche, one where you'll find the trek well worth the effort of venturing off the eatin’ path, as we like to say.

Each stop nets you another stamp on your passport, but you’ll find yourself reluctant for the journey to end. Around every corner awaits another flavorful example of why going back for seconds, or even thirds, is commonplace in Louisiana’s Cajun Bayou. Step up to the plate(s), and when you simply can’t bring yourself to eat another bite, bring your passport (with five or more stamps) to the Visitor Center in Raceland or mail it in to receive your free t-shirt! That’s a trade-off we’ll gladly take. lacajunbayou.com/foodtrail.
