For the seventeenth year, Kite Fest Louisiane takes flight in West Baton Rouge

On May 22-23, kites of every shape, color, and size will soar across the sky as West Baton Rouge Parish welcomes kite-flying enthusiasts around the country to the Capital Region for the seventeenth annual Kite Fest Louisiane.

The free, family-friendly event has brought professional kite flyers, makers, and hobbyists together for a weekend of high-flying adventure for the past two decades. Named “Festival of the Year” by the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association, Kite Fest Louisiane attracts quite the crowd—more than 10,000 attendees make the pilgrimage to West Baton Rouge each spring.

Featuring local live music, on-site food vendors, kite-flying demonstrations, kite-making workshops, and children’s activities—including inflatables, field games, and face painting—the fest features entertainment for everyone. Especially exciting will be the process of ascending a one-hundred-foot octopus kite to the skies.

Munch on the finest South Louisiana cuisine from on-site vendors and seize the opportunity to see a kite ballet as a spectator. On Saturday, you can even expect a fireworks show at dusk and a night-flying performance on deck, weather permitting, that is sure to dazzle with kites dancing alight among the stars. The festivities will be held at the West Baton Rouge Soccer Complex in Port Allen (3383 Rosedale Road). For more event details, lodging options, and more information, visit westbatonrouge.net.
