Poche Plantation Fall Arts and Crafts Show

Poche Plantation has a history of optimism: it was actually constructed after the Civil War, when starting a major new enterprise in the still-battered South took a healthy amount of gumption. Today, this beautiful old home is a major attraction in New Orleans Plantation Country and the host of the annual Poche Plantation Fall Arts and Crafts Show. In addition to being a showcase for local craftsmen and women to display and sell their creations, the event also serves the greater good, with proceeds going to charities within St. James Parish. Past projects have included supporting programs for the developmentally disabled, restoring historic buildings, helping the St. James Community Theatre stage a production, funding scholarships, and more.

All manner of arts and crafts will be available to browse and buy, including jewelry, food, gifts, décor, and outdoor furniture. Additionally, musicians of all levels are invited to join the acoustic string jam: sit on the porch and play some music with others in the community (and get a food voucher for being brave!) This year will also see the festival’s first Red Bean Gumbo Cookoff. Local businesses are donating the beans, sausage, and eggs (spices and expertise are the responsibility of the contestants). The festival promises to be a fun and lively afternoon on the grounds of one of the area’s most beautiful old homes, all in the service of helping those in St. James Parish who need a hand.
