Summertime in Vicksburg offers an escape for every sort of traveler. With no shortage of attractions to explore and a packed calendar of events that beckon for a getaway, come along for the ride and discover why every square mile of this Mississippi city is saturated in color and character.

As the heart of the city, Vicksburg's historic downtown district hosts a wide lineup of cultural happenings. Once a month, the downtown district transforms into a free community-wide block party for Second Saturday, encouraging all who attend to sip, shop, and stroll the streets, with live music performers and local artisan vendors. Additionally on Saturdays, the Levee Street Marketplace hosts an outdoor flea market, "Pickin' on the Porch," accompanied by live music and food trucks. For more live music, the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation hosts its free Classics in the Courtyard happy hour concert series every Thursday throughout June, July, and August.

After a long hiatus, the riverboat dockings at Vicksburg have resumed. Throughout the remainder of the year, passengers aboard the Queen of the Mississippi and the American Duchess river cruises will dock at the city riverfront. It's also a good opportunity for any curious little ones to get a look at an authentic steamboat.
