Fête de la Musique is modeled after a Parisian tradition that began in 1982 as a tribute to the Summer Solstice. More specifically, each June 21, Paris is filled with musicians of all kinds performing on sidewalks, lawns, balconies, in parks, etc. for anyone to enjoy at no cost. In 2007, Fête de la Musique crossed the Atlantic with the debut of Make Music New York. Fête de la Musique is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Here in Louisiana, St. Martin Parish is the first to celebrate this traditional fest—the parish encourages every musician (any genre) to celebrate on their front porch, front yard, local restaurant, and dance hall to be a part of World Music Day. Any restaurant, dance hall, local business or individuals located in St. Martin Parish are encouraged to host music jams at their location. 6-9 pm (or anytime that you want to perform). Contact ddr@cajuncountry.org or call (337) 298-3556 to schedule your slot.
