Architecturally Inspired: Fashion Celebrating the Old State Capitol
to
Old State Capitol 100 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70801
One of the most distinguished examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the United States, the Old Louisiana State Capitol was described as "Castellated Gothic" by its architect, James Harrison Dakin. Distinctively medieval, the mid-19th century building was later totally reconstructed by architect and engineer William Freret, who installed the iconic spiral staircase and stained glass dome.
Nodding to the building's iconic architectural history, artists from Louisiana State University's Department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising, School of Theatre, and School of Art and Design will display wearable creations inspired by various elements of the old statehouse in an exhibition called Architecturally Inspired: Fashion Celebrating the Old State Capitol.
An opening reception will take place on Thursday, July 11, featuring a presentation on Louisiana fashion from the start of statehood to present by director of the LSU Textile and Costume Museum Pam Rabalais-Vinci. 5:30 pm.
The exhibition will be on display until September 7. For more information, contact Brooke Goodrich at 225-342-0500 or brooke.goodrich@sos.la.gov. louisianaoldstatecapitol.org.
