New photography and a historical look at the late, great Charity Hospital
to
Southeastern Louisiana University 1514 Martens Drive, Hammond, Louisiana 70402
A new exhibition at Southeastern Louisiana University features photography by Gus Bennett Jr., a fine arts photographer based in New Orleans who has documented the lives of the cities’ minority population for more than twenty-five years. Bennett’s photographs encourage the viewer to consider human form and shape through a stripping away of individual identities. The exhibition also features Michael Alford’s long-term project, "A Different Kind of Truth." This photographic work examines the history and systematic mechanism of change within the New Orleans Charity Hospital, which was closed following Hurricane Katrina and remains abandoned. Opening reception August 30 from 5 pm–7 pm; reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. southeastern.edu.
