Beethoven's Ninth with Schubert's Unfinished Symphony
to
Orpheum Theatre 129 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra promises a pitch perfect opening to their 2018-2019 season with a double-dose of orchestral heavy-heaters this September. This concert features both Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Schubert's Unfinished Symphony No. 8 and grants multiple performances, with chances to tune in on both the Southshore and the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain.
The unfinished but nevertheless glorious Eighth Symphony may mark the end of Franz Schuberts oevre, but it stands at the start of Romantic symphonic tradition—and another year of delightful performances from the LPO. NOVA Masterworks joins the Orchestra for Ludwig von Beethoven's masterwork Symphony No. 9, whose “Ode to Joy” chorus is recognizable to even the most tone deaf, yet still packs the power to move seasoned audiences.
Catch this pairing of musical giants at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans on September 13 and 15, or at Covington's First Baptist Church on September 14. 7:30 pm. $20 and up. lpomusic.com.
