Get fired up about two new exhibitions at the New Orleans Museum of Art this winter. First, New Forms, New Voices: Japanese Ceramics from the Gitter-Yelen Collection showcases modern masters in the medium of ceramics and the evolution of the form over fifteen thousand years. The exhibition is organized into various sections: Inspired by Ancient Kilns, Hewn from the Earth, Inspired by Nature, Masters of Porcelain, Embracing the Avant Garde, and A Love of Decoration.
Then, Personalities in Clay views American pottery through the major figures in studio ceramics from the 1940s to the end of the twentieth century, charting the growth from decorative yet functional vessels to one compatible with expressive fine arts.
Both exhibitions open on November 4 and will remain on view until April 8, 2018. noma.org.
